Kagitate (kah-ghee-tah-teh) is a bespoke workshop for sculpted ergonomic keyboards. We measure the bone structure of your hands — finger lengths, joint positions — and derive every key position from it. Instead of forcing your hands onto an off-the-shelf board, we shape the board around your hands.

Designed from your bones

From your hand's skeletal data — metacarpal and finger lengths, joint positions — our algorithm derives the position, angle and height of every single key. Your fingers do not reach for the keys; the keys wait where your fingers naturally fall.

A fitting before the build

Before the final build, we ship you a fitting kit — a printed test plate. Rest your fingers on it, tell us how it feels, and we adjust the design. "It arrived but doesn't fit" is designed out of the process.

A sculpted split enclosure

A split, Dactyl-style enclosure whose keys follow the curvature of your palms in three dimensions. Each one is 3D-printed individually from your design data, which you can inspect in our browser-based 3D viewer.

How it works

From order to delivery in roughly 4–6 weeks, depending on fitting rounds.

  1. Consultation

    Tell us your preferences — switches, rows, tenting — through the form. Nothing is charged at this point.

  2. Hand measurement

    Print our A4 measurement sheet, place your hand on it, photograph it with your phone and send it in. We read the skeletal data for you.

  3. 3D design reviewprivate link

    We design your enclosure from the measurements and send you a link to a 3D viewer you can rotate in the browser. Nothing is manufactured until you approve.

  4. Fitting kitfitting

    A printed test plate of the key wells arrives at your door. Rest your fingers on it, and we fine-tune the design from your feedback.

  5. Final build & delivery

    After approval, payment is handled through our shop on BOOTH, a marketplace run by pixiv. Once confirmed, we build your keyboard and ship it to you.

Ahead of our full launch, we are taking a small number of pilot orders from people willing to walk through the tailoring process with us. Pricing and specifications are quoted individually, and payment is handled securely through BOOTH (by pixiv). We currently ship within Japan; international shipping is available on request.

What is a Dactyl-style split keyboard?

Arguably the end game of ergonomic keyboards.

A Dactyl-style keyboard is a sculpted ergonomic keyboard whose keys sit in bowl-shaped wells that follow the curvature of your palms. Born in the DIY mechanical keyboard community, its curved enclosure can only be made by 3D printing — and because keys are placed in three dimensions to match each finger's length, finger travel is dramatically shorter than on a flat keyboard.

Being a split keyboard, it lets you place each half at shoulder width and type in a natural posture, avoiding the wrist angles — ulnar deviation and forearm pronation — that a single flat board forces on you. It is a favorite of engineers and writers who spend all day at the keyboard and want to reduce the strain on their wrists and shoulders.

Off-the-shelf Dactyl boards and kits, however, come in fixed sizes designed around an average hand. Kagitate starts where they stop: we measure the bone structure of your hands and compute the position, angle and height of every key, then design and build a one-of-a-kind enclosure. No 3D printer, no soldering, no assembly — it arrives fully built.

During our pilot period, pricing is quoted individually based on your configuration (split pair or single hand, switches, rows). Consultation, hand measurement and design review are free — you only pay after approving the design.

How long does it take?

Roughly 4–6 weeks from application to delivery, depending on how many fitting rounds are needed.

Do you ship internationally?

We are based in Japan and currently ship domestically; international shipping is available on request — just mention it in the consultation form.
